Who works at Children’s Aid
Caring for Ontario’s children and youth in need of protection is a team effort. There are many child welfare professionals involved in keeping children safe and adhering to the mandate of the Child and Family Services Act. Child welfare professionals, social workers, child and youth workers, and those with experience in child and youth development and service support staff work together with adoptive and foster families, kin, and volunteers to ensure the well-being of children in their families and communities.
More than 8,277 professional staff are employed by Ontario’s 53 Children’s Aid Societies as frontline workers, supervisors, and administrators to serve their communities in protecting children and strengthening families.
What do staff do
Child welfare professionals provide first-response service to children, youth and families. They investigate allegations, assess risks and act to protect children in need. Child welfare professionals also support children and their families, place children in foster or group homes and find suitable adoptive families for children in care.
Child welfare professionals are supported by administrative staff, information technology support, quality assurance, finance, communications, legal and human resources staff.
